Job in the area of south of Oakley, Idaho. Highly preferred: Spanish.

Responsible for ensuring that Star Stone quarries and opencast sites operate efficiently, predictably, safely, cost effectively, and successfully. Additionally, may work on getting new stone fabrication facility up and running. You'll oversee all operations, both on site and in the office, manage staff, coordinate production and output and monitor all site systems. Operational staff may vary depending on the quarry location.  In general, you will have support crew including machine operators, mechanics, foremen, and general laborers.  Quarry sites will generally include actual dig sites and yard sites where stone cutting, splitting, stacking, and preparing for shipment occurs.  You may, depending on your interests and effectiveness, manage the quarries in Oakley, Idaho (Fish Creek, Cotton Thomas, Crookton, and others) and other quarries owned or operated by Star Stone (Heber, Torrey, Arizona, and others).

Typical work activities:

You'll combine your knowledge of extraction and processing systems with excellent interpersonal and management skills to ensure the profitability of quarry sites. Work takes place in the office and on site.

In the office, work activities may include:

    Ensuring that the quarry's production levels are maintained to schedule.
    Balancing demand and output.
    Managing the quarry's production plan in accordance with materials required.
    Coordinating with Headquarters sales and commercial personnel.
    Setting and monitoring targets for all elements of the production crew.
    Managing the production process to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
    Providing the owners with information and statistics on the quarry's performance.
    Developing links with local groups and organizations to support the quarry.
    Managing and regulating the quarry's budget.
    Maintaining up-to-date records and dealing with a range of paperwork.
    Ensuring that key government health and safety legislation (MSHA, EPA, DNR, etc) is implemented throughout the site.
    Keeping up to date with relevant government legislation and industry developments.
    Developing inspection systems and checklists.
    writing development proposals and reports.
    Managing and recruiting staff.

On site, typical activities can include:

    Closely monitoring all areas of the quarry to ensure that extraction and processing work is carried out to the highest standard.
    Working with staff on site to ensure that they are properly trained and efficiently working.
    Dealing with any technical or staffing challenges that arise.
    Undertaking regular site inspections and risk assessments in order to comply with all health and safety regulations.
    Examining the materials produced to ensure that a high quality of product is maintained.
    Assessing equipment and production materials levels.
    Working with Headquarters for ordering new items as required.
    Checking that all vehicles on site are maintained to a good standard.

Compensation, working hours, benefits and expected experience include:

    15+ years of experience in quarries or directly related jobs, managing similar staff and equipment is a must.
    Degree is not required but an undergraduate degree in mining would be helpful.
    A single-quarry manager can earn between $45,000 and $75,000 base salary depending on the scope of responsibility
    Additional income can be earned based on achieving mutually agreed-upon production efficiency or cost-to-produce goals
    With appropriate experience, a single-quarry manager can progress to manager of several quarries with a salary in excess of $75,000.
    The industry as a whole tends to work long hours, so the working day often exceeds the average 9am to 5pm office hours. The role may also include responsibility for being on call in times of emergency or crisis.
    Mobility is useful at the start of your employment as quarry manager for Star Stone as you are likely to move between quarries before settling on the optimum location.
    Travel and overnight absences are not usually part of everyday working life.
